Icelandic Sheep
Because they are wool sheep, meat sheep, and hardy. There's more. They lamb on pasture, are good mothers, and are not short on smarts. Try to fool them. They know every twitch we make and how to avoid all contact except for grain. Grain rules!
Icelandics developed from Northern European short-tails brought to Iceland by the Vikings. Viking Icelanders refined the breed over a thousand years by heavy culling and careful selection for the traits most needed for minimal oversight in a harsh climate. Icelanders are survivors and so are their sheep. Importantly, we have also have three guardian dogs to keep them safe. Our dogs are Italian Maremmas. I cannot imagine having safe pastures without them.
